So this past weekend, for the first time, the CR had an "open" or "off" weekend allowing individual sites to run their own tournaments. For those who do not know this, many regions operate in that format entirely. Some regions have 2 divisions - open/power and club - and each weekend facilities/clubs all over the state host their own tournaments, and teams/clubs pick where they want to play. Tournament registration is not centralized with the region office so entry fees are handled like this past weekend and like Hi Neighbor and are sent to the individual site/host.
I know Queen City Cla$$ic had that awkward Friday start. (In the real world, 3-day tournaments during the school year only take place on holiday weekends - Fri through Sun or Sat through Mon.). Nonetheless, I am just wondering how the tournaments went? How everyone liked the idea, etc.? Please share for the benefit of all...

We played in the Queen City Classic. I know what you mean about the $$ but you will find that at any convention center tournaments. At least they had a Bojangles in there with regular priced food. We played in the morning wave and everything mostly stayed on schedule or ahead of schedule. From what I've heard, it will be on President's Day weekend from now on so maybe it will attract more teams since girls won't have to miss school. I know that will conflict with the Capitol Hill Classic but I still think it will draw more teams. If it stays on the same date, I feel like it could be just as successful if it is a 2 day tournament. Playing on Fridays during high school basketball season is tough. Multi sport athletes can't miss on game day so some teams were not playing with their full teams on Friday. All things considered, I would definitely go back. I hope it was enough of a success to try it again next year.
